Drinks are a big part of life and especially motherhood: morning coffee, afternoon pick-me-ups, and evening drinks to wind-down with.

Unknowingly, there are ingredients or properties of our favorite drinks that can interfere with digestion, and contribute to hormonal imbalance and other health challenges.

I know because I did this to myself.

I was not aware of the hidden hazards in popular drinks (like coffee) that are even touted as being healthy or beneficial. Then there's the timing of drinks, and how that can affect our hormones and overall health.

After digging into the details of it all, and experiencing improvements in my own health, I decided to share all the findings in this guide.

One Mom's Story

After I had my first baby, I didn’t understand the importance of nutrient-density. I didn't look at my plate or cup as a source of power for myself; I was just trying to survive!

I had a tough time keeping up with making healthy food, or even thinking of what I needed in the midst of caring for my baby. Once I was done breastfeeding my son, I just did what I could to keep up with him as my growing toddler.

I started overusing drinks that gave me a boost. I took in hidden sugars and chemicals, excess caffeine (or caffeine at the wrong time of day), and empty foods and drinks that left me with energy crashes and a sluggish thyroid.

I unknowingly drank beverages that were contributing to estrogen dominance, and an overdrive of stress hormones. This was putting me into hormonal imbalance, depletion, and hypothyroidism.

I was even told I wouldn't be able to have more children naturally! (I eventually did...twice!) I didn't like what I was hearing from my doctors, and I just had a strong feeling that there had to be a way to fix all of this.

There absolutely was.

When I started working with an integrative nutrition health coach, I first tackled drinks because I was so hooked on them for comfort, energy, and calming effects.

The emotional side of eating or drinking is one thing, but the drinks themselves were physically so much worse for me than I thought. There's a lot of important details surrounding everyday drinks; especially for moms.

After making little changes in my drinks, I started to notice a difference in my clarity and energy within a few weeks. My sleep even improved, and I felt better in the mornings.

After slowly implementing more lifestyle changes, and tackling other areas of life that were contributing to how I felt, I was able to balance my thyroid and overall health.
